Die 2007 gegründete kanadische Experimental-Pop-Band Braids-Raphaelle Standell-Preston, Austin Tufts und Taylor Smith- nennen ihr fünftes Album „Euphoric Recall" (Secret City Records), im Studio Toute Garnie in Montréal geschrieben, aufgenommen, selbst produziert und abgemischt. Stilistisch offen für alles schwebt der Sound im weiten Kosmos hochmelodisch-großemphatisch-ätherisch-fragil-schwurbeligen Dream-Elektropop, hier eine Portion Kammermusik durch die üppigen Streicherarrangements, dort eine Nuance an entrückter melancholischer Theatralik, dazu etwas spaciger Nerd-Elektropop, keine einengende Zuordnung oder limitierende Genreverortung. Im Opener „Supernova" gibt Raphaelle Standell-Preston mit ihrer zart-schwebenden Stimme alles, um den Song mit Gänsehaut-Moment atmosphärisch zu veredeln. „Evolution" dagegen vereint das nerdig-funkige Elektro-Groove-Geklöppel von Caribou und die theatralisch-kathedralisch-zeremonielle Odesza-Emo-Atmosphäre. „Evolution" in and of itself is a patient act. Our pursuit of the individual self, which comprises all realms of human emotion, is sweetened with the intention and act of patience from ourselves, from those that we love and those who love us.", erklärt Raphaelle, über „Retriever" sagt sie „simple in its sentiment of love and friendship, yet complex in its lush arrangement and textural experimentation" „How you cultivate your heart space is extremely important to the outcome of what you are pursuing", sagt Standell-Preston. Und schließlich: „I think that when we are operating from a place of safety and feeling loved and have intentions of loving, we can access really interesting places." So haben Braids eine eigene Elektro-Popsprache für sich gefunden, mit einem schwelgend-elegischen Wall-of-Sound trägt einen der Titelsong am Ende aus dem Album.
